Thornbury Medical Centre

Thornbury Medical Centre opened to the public in October 2007 and was developed to replace Laisterdyke Clinic, a 1960’s single-storey dilapidated building.

The new 916m2 facility is safely located within the Morrison’s Supermarket site, which allows ease of access via public transport and main road links.  The land is leased from Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC via a partnership agreement designed to help regenerate the surrounding area.

Staff and patients have welcomed the additional services available at Thornbury, which include Minor Surgery, District Nursing and Health Visiting, and the centre has experienced a strong increase in patient registration figures.

Sir Ken Morrison CBE, former Chairman of Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC, officially opened the facility on 21st February 2008.

Undercliffe Health Care Centre

Undercliffe Health Care Centre has been constructed on what was the derelict site of the former Undercliffe Primary School.  This 2110m2 building was completed and handed over in January 2008 and provides new facilities to the staff and patients of Peel Park Surgery and Valley View Surgery.

The scheme also delivers other medical facilities such as Dietetics, Podiatry, District Nursing, Speech and Language Therapy, Mental Health City Therapeutic Resource Teams, Midwifery and Health Visiting.

Staff and patients now benefit from on-site parking and an independent pharmacy, which is open six-days a week.  This facility has been designed and located to complement those services provided in the new Hillside Bridge Health Care Centre, at the bottom of New Otley Road (see below).

Hillside Bridge Health Care Centre

Hillside Bridge Health Care Centre, which was named via a competition by a local student, is located on New Otley Road near Bradford City Centre.  The facility is home to two GP Practices – Primrose Surgery and Pollard Park Surgery – and incorporates its own Pharmacy.

Local residents and former patients are now benefiting from additional services such as Speech and Language Therapy, Podiatry, Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Family Planning, Drug and Alcohol Services and Social Services.  Practitioners with a Special Interest have been furnished with space and resource to enable them to offer Outpatient Clinics and Minor Surgery.

The new 2539m2 Health Care Centre, which acts as the hub of the Barkerend Locality Care Provision working in tandem with Undercliffe Health Care Centre, has been welcomed by local people, staff and patients and has greatly improved the appearance of the local area.

Bradford and Airedale teaching Primary Care Trust are planning to further enhance this scheme to provide a flagship drop-in health centre based on the Lord D’Arzi Interim Report proposals.  This service extension would offer GP facilities 10 hours a day, 7 days a week.
